Things to do in Dorset this Christmas and New Year

Every year, Dorset gears up for another spectacular festive season that offers a range of different events and activities across the county. It’s a magical time for residents and visitors alike, and it’s the ideal way to spend Christmas and bring in the New Year. As always, there are lots to do, and not much time to do it in, so you’ll have to be selective. To give you a helping hand, we’ve put together a brief guide on things the Woods Removals team recommend this Christmas and New Year in Dorset.

Our Best Christmas and New Year Events in Dorset –

Bournemouth Christmas Tree Wonderland – This year, Bournemouth is going all out for their spectacular Christmas Tree Wonderland. The central walkthrough is massive and has various audio and light shows inside. There are over one hundred trees the make up the trail, and outdoor ice rink, larger-than-life illuminations, and plenty of festive food and entertainment.

Artisans on the Beach – If you’re looking for some unique gifts done from scratch by local craftspeople, Swanage is the destination. Artisans on the Beach takes over the beach-huts. Presenting the best Dorset has to offer for collages, photography and paintings, to vintage and retro cushions, coasters and must-have niche pieces.

Snowman and Father Christmas Double Bill – Would Christmas actually be Christmas without seeing the Snowman? Raymond Briggs created two iconic festive season animations, and they’re still as popular today as they were in the 80s and 90s. Head over to the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis to see these unforgettable Christmas treats. (shown in the image above)

Bridport New Year’s Eve Street Party – Bridport is gaining a reputation for bringing the whole town together to see in the New Year. Literally, the entire town is one big party where revellers weave in and out of various happenings. Everyone then heads to the town hall for the countdown to the clock striking midnight. After Auld Lang Syne does the rounds, everyone filters to The Stable to continue to party.

Preparing Your Home for Guests During the Festive Period –

If you’re having guests over for Christmas, it will be useful to create as much space as possible. Start by decluttering every room, not just the main places where people will be eating and having fun. You’ll also want to childproof any exposed electrical points if there are children or pets. Move any valuable or fragile items from the main house, so you don’t spend all day worrying about breakages.

Buy all your food now – pay and arrange to collect your main food items a couple of days before Christmas day. If you still have gifts to buy, don’t wait until Christmas Eve. You’ll have plenty of last-minute things to do. And remember to contact your visitors and get a headcount. Then you’ll know exactly how many chairs you’ll need.

Don’t waste time moving boxes and furniture to different rooms to make more space. The best option is to use storage. By using self storage, you’ll be able to move as many pieces of furniture, appliances and items out of your house to accommodate your guests. Then all you need to do is get enough seats and table space for everyone. Many people continue to use a storage unit to keep your family’s presents hidden before Christmas Day.
